givesushopeIt's that glorious time of year when we reunite with loved ones (we neglected all year), stuff our faces to excess, and pass out in front of the TV. Perhaps a recalibration of the thanksometer is in order. A spin-off of the popular GivesMeHope.com site, this community invites you to document moments of kindness, generosity, and pure human love in 350 words or less.

veggieslackersDespite its mainstream appeal, Thanksgiving is not for everyone. There are those struggling with food disorders, for whom this day causes endless conflict. There are the cash-challenged, who can't afford the gluttony we've grown to expect. There are the lonely, who don't have loved ones nearby. And let's not forget the vegetarians, who decry the animal cruelty. But there's one more group we often overlook: the terminally lazy! This community of lazy vegetarians offers easy recipes for an animal-friendly feast.

fashinJust in time for holiday shopping season, this fashionista community brings you the world of haute couture in the form of sumptuous photos, video clips, and candid commentary. There's also a sugary sprinkle of mainstream movie discussions and debates on such pressing social issues as manicure styles and celebrity colonics. If you need a break from the daily grind to indulge your girlie side, this is twinkly pink on steroids.

Sunday, Sunday...:) Let me see here...what do I have to write about...Oh, yes! I have put up an ORIGINAL dragon painting on eBay (I listed him yesterday)..."Nite Lite" has been living in my darklingemily etsy shop, but I have moved him over to an eBay auction...Which is bonus for y'all, because he is a little less than half the price he was before! Of course, this is an auction format listing, and he starts at just $15.00, free shipping, so it could potentially go higher...But still, you could get a really good deal on this ORIGinal painting! (blah blah blah!!) Anyway, "Nite Lite" is a great big green dragon, curled around an entire kingdom castle, because he is a tired dragon and wants to fall asleep (he even has heavy eyelids!) but he is a wee bit afraid of the dark! This piece is somewhat small, at 7" x 5" (acrylic on a canvas panel)...To see the auction listing, and perhaps even make a bid, please follow the link below the picture:

"Nite Lite" original dragon painting auction
I also have a handful of ACEO (art cards) listed for auction- all my ACEO auctions start at just $5.00 with free shipping- to see all the current listings on eBay, please click here!
Since my last post, I have managed to get my newest "sexy jester" pin up completed. "Pumpkin Pie" is a mixed media illustration, featuring one of my jesters sitting atop a great big piece of delicious pumpkin pie, and behind her is a really big pumpkin! I am not offering the original for sale (yet, perhaps eventually I will), and sadly she is not posted in my website art gallery yet, but if you would like a print or poster of her, please feel free to email me with your preference of poster (11" x 14" for $19.95) or limited edition print (8" x 10" hand embellished, numbered, + signed) and I would be more than happy to get one to you! Anyway, here is a picture of her, all finished up:

* If you do order a print from me, the watermark will not be on there! It is for "publishing" purposed only ;)
If you would like to see all the other sexy jesters, they are living here in my "Sexy Art" sub gallery ;)
And...Some rather poopy news...I know a while back I mentioned something about having a tutorial I wrote (how to make your own journals) getting published in Faerie Magazine. Well, it was supposed to be published in the Summer 2009 issue (which was late getting to the presses, and did not in fact come out until September)...I am sad to announce that I am NOT in there.
I had a whole shpeel written out that was a bit of a "wag of the finger", but thought that maybe I should just be polite and professional and not even bother with crabbing about it. I will say this one thing, as a smart cookie, a reader, consumer, and lover of fantasy and all other art and literature...Faerie Magazine could be a better publication than it is, and quite frankly I am glad that they left me out of their magazine, seeing as I dont find them to be very on point.
Rest assured, the first shpeel was much less nice about all this, but even still, very tame compared to what I would really like to say...However, in the words of Forrest Gump, "That's all I have to say about that." ;)
xo!

Best monster movie ever.
Jaws (1982) Rated PG with warning “May Be Too Intense for Younger Children” (um, yeah…unless you really don’t want them to ever swim at a beach again)
Synopsis
Man-eating great white shark terrorizes a seaside town.
Review
This one is usually called a “thriller” rather than a “horror” movie. That just means it was good enough to be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar, so Hollywood wants to make sure—God forbid—you don’t mistake it for a lowly horror movie. Pfft. It’s horror. Most kids I know have never seen this one because, well, it’s about a shark. Not a sadistic killer. Not a supernatural monster. Not even a genetically modified shark. Just a really, really big shark. It doesn’t sound very scary or very interesting, but it is. That’s what made this movie great. It took a simple idea and made an amazing movie out of it.
The reason it’s so good is that everyone on it does their best work. This was one of Steven Spielberg’s first movies, and of course he did great, but he had a lot to work with. The script is based on a good novel with good characters. The author (Peter Benchley) was one of the screenwriters, but he had help, too, and this is one of the rare cases where the movie is better than the book (IMO) The characters come alive and the dialogue snaps and sings. The actors are great. The cinematography is good. And the movie won the Oscar for best score for a reason—excellent soundtrack.
If I have one negative comment, it’s the same one I had for Poltergeist. It’s old. I don’t mind it with the out-of-date clothing and hairstyles and all that—it’s like seeing a period picture. But it’s kind of distracting with the special effects. You can tell the shark is mechanical. It’s not a problem, though, because you don’t see the shark until the end. That actually wasn’t intentional—the special effects guys were late building the shark, so they couldn’t use it in the movie. To me, that makes it even better—building up the suspense. And (bonus for modern viewers) you don’t spend the whole movie going “that shark looks so lame” LOL
Chloe’s Rating: A
Spook-meter: Chance you’ll jump out of your seat at least once: 80%
Gross-out-meter: Chance your stomach won’t feel like finishing your popcorn: 20% (only if you’re really squeamish…in which case you probably aren’t going to watch a movie about a man-eating shark anyway)
Contest time! This week… This movie is known for keeping people out of the water, at least temporarily. If you’ve seen it, how eager were you for your next swim in the ocean? If you haven’t, has a horror movie ever made you afraid to do something? On November 30, I’ll randomly pick one comment from either the MySpace or LiveJournal blogs. The prize will be the same as usual: either a signed copy of The Summoning /The Awakening or a $20 (10£) gift certificate for Amazon.com/Amazon.ca/Amazon.co.uk.

Happy Friday the 13th!
I went for a really good walk today; it is still pretty warm here for November, so I am soaking in as much of it as I can...I am sure it will be snowing before I know it...::Sigh::
Well, tonight I only have a few things to share...The first being a brand new eBay auction! Yay! This new auction is for an ACEO print (ACEOs are collectible art cards that measure 2.5" x 3.5") of my original dragon painting "Night Fryer"... I know it is not the nicest dragon, nor cute, but a dragon nonetheless...maybe he is cranky because he has heartburn? Who knows...:) Anyhow, this print of "Night Fryer" is up on eBay with a $5.00 starting bid, and free shipping! To see him and perhaps make a bid, please follow the link below the picture:

"Night Fryer" fire breathing dragon ACEO print auction
And if any of you are interested in owning the ORIGINAL painting, which measures 20" x 16" x 1" (acrylic on stretched canvas, sides painted black, ready to hang), he is currently residing in my darklingemily etsy shop here!
Also tonight I have some work in progress pictures of my latest "sexy jester"...This one is sitting on a nice, tasty piece of pumpkin pie...You can view my progress in my facebook album here- and you do not need to have a facebook account to see her! She is on page two, by the way...but there are a bunch of others to look at, too!
One more thing before I go work on my jester some more...I have a *BRAND NEW* t shirt design up at my Zazzle shop...This new shirt design features "Red Larry", one of my newer dragons...He was originally designed for a friend's tattoo, but is now available on clothing, wee! Here is the link to it:
"Red Larry" flying flame dragon t shirt or hoodie
Remember, you can customize the size, color, style, sleeves, etc on this design ;) Something for everyone! And now, I am going back to my desk in an attempt to finish this new sexy jester up and also stay up til Smackdown aires (at 11:30pm...I do not have a dish, so I have to wait for it to re-aire on Fox).
xo!

Hi everyone! I have a brand new BEAUTIFUL original painting today - for my upcoming (well, 2012) calendar - a holiday painting for December- "Christmas Candle" and she is LOVELY- and she's on eBay for just ONE PENNY now! And also, since you all keep asking - yes, I will be self-publishing my 2010 calendar shortly, so keep an eye out - it will be very soon and I'll be sending out the link! It's a little late (oddly enough) because I've been working on my 2012 calendar (gotta pick up where those Mayans left off, mwahaha) which is a mass-marketed published calendar for retail stores. Yes, the traditional publishing world moves a little slow - they are planning the 2012 calendar already in 2009, hehe. So that one (featuring the new painting most likely) will be in stores in a couple years =P But the new 2010 calendar (available online) will be up soon, and I'll definitely let you all know! Also - for those others of you who keep asking - my 25% off eBay sale will be running very very soon - so keep an eye out for that announcement as well! All righty, the new original painting! "Christmas Candle" is the title - possibly my favourite Christmas painting I've done yet! This is actually intended as the December image on my 2012 calendar, we'll see. It is beautiful - an angelic creature cradling a candle with garlands of poinsettias and other holiday hoopla about her. I love it! A ton of beautiful detail! She's 12"x16" in size, READY TO HANG - 2" deep cradled masonite, hanger already on back. This ORIGINAL acrylic painting is up on eBay starting at just ONE PENNY for a 10-day auction ending the evening of Monday, November 23rd at 6:27PM Central Time , and you can see her below: "Christmas Candle" 12"x16" ORIGINAL PAINTING!And as always, to see all of my other currently available original paintings, click below - I have some BEAUTIFUL originals up right now: Jasmine's Originals In other news - I have a ton of new stuff up in my Zazzle store! Check all the goodies out HERE! Enjoy! Until next time... -Jasmine make custom gifts at Zazzle

EDIT@08:16 UTC/GMT. Wow. That was ugly. I expected it to go for 30 minutes and have maybe 1 minute of broken connectivity. Instead it lasted over 4 hours and we had 10 minutes of downtime directly related to the load balancer upgrades and then another 5-10 minutes of downtime when our primary Pingback database server crashed and the secondary couldn't take over; which could have been indirectly caused by the network upgrade missing a self-VIP. Anyways, we're up, we're working, the load balancers are barely breaking a sweat right now and I need some food and a shot of whiskey. I don't even *like* whiskey!! Thanks mhwest and dnewhall for helping out! --- On Saturday the 14th at 4AM UTC/GMT we will be upgrading the operating system of our network load balancers to a newer version, one that will allow us to use both CPUs! Nifty, because multiprocessing is nice. Since we have 2 load balancers, the plan is to upgrade 1 at a time, and there really should be very little impact to our website. Hopefully you won't notice a thing and I'll get to go back to the hotel and watch some wonderful late night infomercials. We've got a lot of exciting projects coming up for 2010 and we're hoping that we'll be able to deliver them all to you, that you will find it useful/cool/lovely and then you will use the site even more. Behind-the-scenes work like this will give us the capacity to handle the anticipated traffic, so expect a few more maintenance windows especially in the beginning of next year as we've got some neat ideas to improve performance around here! We had the recent 30-45 minute outage yesterday due to one of our logging databases filling up disk space -- not so great design coupled with my human error in handling the initial problem -- and it looks like we're going to finally have some resources to eliminate stuff like that. I can't wait! As usual, I will be updating status.livejournal.org before and after, just in case you are not able to reach our main website during the work.

And she too is in a huge, ornate, antique style picture frame. Many details on this - I love it. It's an open wood frame with a posh golden finish. The frame measures 22" wide by 26" high. The masonite panel itself is 12"x16". This really is a stunning piece - it truly can be the focus of any room. She is up in my eBay store below (she is gorgeous!)! So snag her now if you'd like her! "Mechanical Angel III" - a FRAMED ORIGINAL PAINTING - 22"x25"And here is "Faces of Faery 48" - the 48th in the series. Ready to hang - 2" deep cradled masonite as well - she (like ALL of my Faces of Faery) is 6"x6" an ORIGINAL acrylic painting. Faces of Faery all feature beautiful faery-inspired creatures, and she is no exception. This is the 48th in the series. I have been super slacking on my poor Zazzle Shop, but once I finish "fixing" my website, I should have more time to design new merchandise! Sometimes, I wish there were two of me...But for now, I am going to work on some new dragon paintings, and watch some wrestling!

Hidely-ho!
So, I have listed my original painting "Dragon Dreams" up for auction on eBay, and this is a very special auction, because 1/2 of the final sale price will be donated to a little boy who is in need of a surgery...His name is Reid Hite, and here is an excerpt from the family blog post:
"Reid is now 4 and a half months old. Since birth he has only had one testicle and the doctor waited till 4 months to see if his other one would drop on its own. When it did not drop we started with the trips to specialist. Reid is on Peachstate insurance which very few doctors or specialist take. We went to the only ones in GA that take it, which were all over 2 hours away. Each one told us he needs surgery by 6 months of age to correct the issue but that they did not feel comfortable doing it. His left testicle is in his stomach in between 3 muscles. It is too far up to bring down and will need to be auto transplanted. This has to be done by the time he is 6 months old or it will rip through his stomach muscles causing severe damage."
You can read the whole blog post at this link:http://reidhite.chipin.com/reid-hites-surgery and there is an option to donate there, if you feel so inclined to be an angel...
So...again, my original painting "Dragon Dreams"- 14" x 11" x 1" acrylic painting on stretched canvas- is up on eBay for auction, starting at a $60.00 starting bid, and 50% of the final sale price will be donated to the Hite family for their son Reid's surgery. The reason I chose this piece of art to auction off is that it is one of my more "child friendly" dragon paintings, and I am a firm believer that dragons are protectors of the unknown secrets and magic that is still here in this world, even if we as humans cannot acknowledge the presence of such, and that helping others is an important part of being an artist and a decent human being. Unfortunately, at this point, the only way I can help these folks out is to put up this auction, and hope like hell it gets at least one bid ;). To see the listing and make a bid, please follow the link below the picture:

I will have some new art to share sometime this weekend...I know, promises, promises...:D I have started a *new* jester piece, with cupcakes!! Wow, going from helping a little boy out to sexy jesters and naughty desserts...I must be completely out of my mind. But I am okay with that. Life would be awfully dull if I were normal...
xo!

Spam bots are a crafty lot, so we'll continue to refine our tactics and keep up the good fight to keep you safe from spam attacks on LiveJournal. RSS feeds againIf you're addicted to , icanhaschzbrgr, or other syndicated feeds, we're pleased to report that we've resolved the update error that was mucking up your RSS feeds. While content was being pulled correctly, it wasn't being posted to the feeds themselves. Late last week, we finally nailed down what we hope was the root problem, so content should post properly. We thank you for your patience. Wii have killer CSI Deadly Intent contests! c_s_iIf you're a gamer who loves CSI, have Wii got news for you! c_s_i is sponsoring killer contests. Good Evening!
Weeeee...I spent a long time on my website today, which is a little pathetic because it was SOOO beautiful outside...BUT, It had to get done! Work is work, and I am a Capricorn, so it's hard to ignore the work LOL!
Anyhow, my website still needs a little tweaking here and there, but all the individual gallery pages are republished and pretty pretty!! All the art in them is available as prints and/or posters, but...it is always free to look LOL! Here, why don't you go visit: darklingtreasures.com
Also, tonight I have a brand new dragon ACEO up for auction on eBay..."Gold Bed" is a wee little dragon baby, protecting his big ol' stash of treasure and gold...though he looks a little worried, with those big eyes of his, that he can't keep tabs on it all! He is an ORIGINAL painting, in ACEO format (3.5" x 2.5") on a small sheet of canvas, up for auction starting at just $5.00, with my usual free shipping! To see him up close, and maybe even make a bid, please visit the link below the picture:

okay, just a quick post, as I am mesmerized by tonight's episode of Monday Night RAW (with special guest host, the prince of darkness himself, Ozzy!!!)
I have a few new listings up on eBay tonight, the first of them is an ACEO (art card- measures 2.5" x 3.5") print of my original illustration "Icy Eyes"...an eerily beautiful goth girl with a rather strange, but equally beautiful, blue bird on her finger... She is up for a 7 day auction, starting at just $5.00, with free shipping! To see her listing on eBay and perhaps even bid, please follow the link below the picture:

And, on the darker side of Emily land, is another eBay auction...Zombies!! "Daddy's Little Zombie" is an ORIGINAL painting (in acrylics on canvas, measures 3.5" x 5") in my silhouette style, on a blue, veiny background...A little child zombie and his father crest a hill, looking for something to eat...and they have glowing yellow eyes! This original zombie painting starts at just $9.00, with free shipping; if you would like to see detail pictures and/or make a bid, please follow the link below the rather dark "family portrait" hee hee:
